The Local Government Funding Agency (LGFA) proudly supports the creation of climate scenarios designed specifically for the local government sector.

These scenarios present science-based, plausible but challenging futures that can be used as a practical tool to help local government navigate uncertainty, stress-test decisions, and build long-term resilience.

LGFA is committed to supporting councils address climate change and sustainability issues. This collaborative effort from the local government sector to build a shared understanding of how climate change could impact their ability to deliver services to communities over time is an important part of this work.

As the sponsor of these sector climate scenarios, LGFA thanks both KPMG and the council officers who contributed their time and insights to developing these resources. We hope they are useful and allow councils to address the strategic risks that different climate futures present to their organisations.

Scenarios are designed to be used, not read. To support council officers to apply the scenarios in their planning and decision making, we have developed three videos to complement the FAQs in the Guidance Document. These videos cover what climate scenarios are, how practitioners can tailor scenarios to their local context, and an example of how climate scenarios can be used in asset planning.
