Papa Rererangi i Puketapu Solar Farm becomes the first project financed under New Zealand Local Government Funding Agency’s Green and Social Loan Renewable Energy Category.
Papa Rererangi i Puketapu, the organisation who runs the New Plymouth Airport on behalf of New Plymouth District Council, is in the final stages of completing the 10.02MW solar farm on Airport Drive, New Plymouth. The solar farm will generate approximately 14.72 GWh of electricity per year, avoiding approximately 1490 tCO2e per year.
One half of the solar farm will sell generated electricity into a private, grid connected network that includes the airport terminal building, EV charging stations, and other airport-related users. The second half will sell all generated electricity into the market, with New Plymouth District Council signing up for the first three-years.

This is a key step in Papa Rererangi i Puketapu and New Plymouth District Council’s efforts to manage and minimise its carbon footprint and enhance sustainability across its operations.
