New Zealand Local Government Funding Agency (“LGFA”) announced today it has appointed Bruce Allan as its third ‘Future Director’ under the LGFA Future Directors programme, effective 1 August 2025 for a period of 18 months.
Bruce is currently Deputy CEO of Hastings District Council with direct responsibilities for Information Management, Business Transformation, Content Management, Strategic Risk and Emergency Responsiveness. In his sixteen-year career at HDC he has also served as Group Manager Corporate, Chief Financial Officer and as a Strategic Financial Advisor.
The Future Directors programme aims to give talented people from within the Local Government sector with an interest in corporate governance the opportunity to observe and participate in Boardroom discussions for an 18-month period. The Future Director attends all Board meetings, but they have no voting rights and are not involved in decision making.
LGFA Chair Craig Stobo said, "The LGFA Board is pleased to appoint Bruce as a Future Director from a shortlist of outstanding candidates. His extensive experience across local government and his evident desire to build his governance capabilities means Bruce will bring relevant experience to the LGFA, while Bruce can observe and contribute to the thinking and decision-making of an innovative financier that contributes real value to the local government sector.”
Bruce said, “I am thrilled to have this opportunity to be a Future Director on the LGFA Board. I have watched the LGFA grow and support the Local Government sector since its inception and what it has achieved for the sector is amazing. This is a unique opportunity to deepen my understanding of public sector governance, financial markets, and the vital role LGFA plays in supporting local government across New Zealand. I look forward to learning from and contributing to the experienced LGFA Board.”
